The Jolly Little Postman

This gift is actually for my own jolly little postal worker. Jane just loves to play pretend "mail". She makes little paper letters and delivers them to our whole family. I was just itching to get started on this little mail set for her. I was inspired by the fabric mail set done by Nothing Fancy and the little mailbag created by All Buttoned Up. For my own little mailbag, I decided to do a simple shoulder tote. The denim-type fabric came from the $1 Fabric Section at Walmart. The bag is lined with a vintage blue and red puppy print I already had. I made a wide strap to give it a shoulder bag feel and I embroidered "MAIL" onto some white felt which I cut with rounded pinking shears and sewed onto the front of the bag. Really, these pictures don't do it justice. I just adore this little mail bags. For the envelopes I layered two pieces of felt together, stitched a little rectangle shape and cut the sides with the pinking shears as well. They are each embroidered with different names of family members to be delivered to and there is even a letter to Santa from Jane. I am working on a couple of postcards to add to the set as well and I plan to applique some little stamps onto the letters to finish them up. I am hoping to find a little tin mailbox to add to the set as well. I can hardly wait to give this gift to Jane.

I"m really blown away by your talent and creativity - the ideas in this post and in your post from yesterday are phenomenal. Amazing work! And I recently encouraged my visitors to save bits of fabric, so you're giving a perfect demonstration of how to use up what you have.

This is so flippin' cute!! My own little one is probably a tad too old for this, but that doesn't mean I can't make some for other little ones for birthday or Christmas gifts. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea!

I love it! This is such a great idea. It is something I can have for whenever the little designers come to my house to play.

I will have to add this to my list of projects.

I LOVE this mailbag! I posted (excuse the pun) recently about doing a mail delivery activity with my son. Someone asked me where she could get a mailbag -- I sent her a link to this post so she could see your idea. How cute!

Thank you so much! (And a hat tip to One Pretty Thing.)
This was a perfect idea for a family I know, and I whipped it up this morning. The bag was $1.99 at Hobby Lobby, the fabric was on clearance at $2.50.
Pictures are here: (hopefully)
